The National Association of Journalists of Peru (ANP) expressed its rejection of the statements made by presidential spokesman Fredy Hinojosa, who accused the media of “inciting violence” and asked the Public Prosecutor’s Office to investigate them for reports of incidents during President Dina Boluarte’s visit to Piura.
Through its X account, the ANP states that this statement is a new attempt by the government to criminalize journalistic activity.
“The ANP considers this statement a new attempt by the government to criminalize journalistic activity. It is no longer just intolerance to criticism, but systematic attacks that seek to muzzle the press by using justice operators as instruments.“, they warn.
It should be remembered that Fredy Hinojosa blamed the press for “instigating violence” against the authorities and asked the Public Prosecutor’s Office to launch an investigation.
When asked about the protests against Dina Boluarte in Sullana, the presidential spokesman said that the president’s activities had been carried out with “absolute normality” in recent weeks.
“We take this opportunity to inform the public that the activities carried out by the president in recent weeks have been carried out with absolute normality. However, we also want to inform and denounce that some malicious people are trying to portray a certain population as hostile, which is absolutely false and I am going to refer to the presence of the president in Piura. Personally, I am aware that all the activities have been carried out within the framework of cordiality, dialogue with the population and without any type of violent actions, as has been insinuated by certain sectors of the press.“, he said at a press conference.
