“It is expected that in the next few hours the Government will offer a clear explanation of the reasons why the contract for the traffic lights continued to be executed. Greater Santo Domingo with the company Transcore despite having been suspended since October of last year,” the entity said in a press release.

The government also believes that the public should know the level of execution of the contract, the payments made during the process and the reasons why control of the system was left to a company questioned by the government itself.
It is recalled that the Purchasing and Contracting Department suspended the aforementioned contract for an amount greater than RD$1,300 million pesos in October 2023, after identifying irregularities such as that it was created months before the aforementioned contest and that the official owner was an employee of the entity organizing the process, the National Institute of Transit and Transport (INTRANT)
The civic organization affiliated with Transparency International in the Dominican Republic believes that the arguments presented last week by government spokesman Homero Figueroa are superficial and do not meet the expectations of a society that deserves explanations about the proper use of public funds.
“Dominican society is tired of the laissez-faire approach to contracts of this nature that involve billions of pesos and that after the scandal are forgotten by the media,” says a statement from the National Council of the Organization.
Citizen Participation indicated that in the same way the Public Prosecutor’s Office He must explain the progress of the investigations that began last year and about which the public has no information.
“We know that during the investigative phase the Public Prosecutor’s Office should not publish results that could even affect the process, but it is necessary to know if in this case involving such a large figure and a service that falls within the scope of national security, there is an open process,” said Participación Ciudadana.
