UPV and MEP welcome government action after safe conduct for Edmundo González

Representatives of the Venezuelan Popular Unity (UPV) political party welcomed the Venezuelan government’s decision to grant safe conduct to the former opposition candidate, Edmundo González Urrutia, on September 7 of this year, as a measure to safeguard peace and democracy in the country.

The president of UPV, Henry Hernández, supported the decision of the national government to grant safe conduct to the former candidate Edmundo González, and stated that it was a cowardly exit that the losing candidate had established and stressed that “since July 29, Edmundo González Urrutia had been asking for refuge in the Kingdom of the Netherlands, knowing the wave of violence that had been promoted by the so-called “comanditos” in order to destabilize the peace and democracy of the country.”

Hernández points out that these were the plans of the extreme right, to generate violence and terror because that is what the American empire is used to. “This escape and this exit exposes the criminality of this former candidate who was defeated on July 28.”

Likewise, the National President of the political party Movimiento Electoral del Pueblo, Gilberto Giménez Prieto, expressed his opinion on the departure from the country of the former opposition candidate, Edmundo González Urrutia, and stated that the Venezuelan government granted him safe conduct under Venezuelan laws to leave Venezuelan territory and assured that these facts were known since July 28 of this year and called the trap set by the Venezuelan extreme right “shameless” and assured that the flight from the country by the former opposition candidate was planned.

Prieto added that it is shameless to say before the entire world that he has nothing to do with the minutes, this after the former opposition candidate declared that he does not recognize the minutes published on the fraudulent website which was created by Maria Corina Machado and delivered a letter to the Attorney General’s Office in which he explained that he was not part of that process and that he preferred to seek a solution within the institutional frameworks of the state, even though he faces serious accusations.

Likewise, members of the People’s Electoral Movement party praised the holding of the Congress Against Fascism, which will take place in Caracas on September 10 and 11 of this year.

“Venezuela has become the epicenter of the fight against fascism. We have experienced firsthand the violence that has been generated against the Venezuelan government and this small opposition group has given the country away to the U.S. government,” Prieto said in his statements.
