Former presidential candidate Antonio Ecarri announced that he will ask the Constitutional Chamber of the Supreme Court of Justice (TSJ) to annul the actions of the Electoral Chamber, regarding the presidential process of July 28.
“I want to announce that I am going to request an extension so that the Constitutional Chamber of the TSJ annuls the actions of the Electoral Chamber,” said the president of the Lápiz party on Tuesday, September 10.
During a press conference, he stressed that it is necessary to restore “order” to the country’s institutions. He warned that in light of the crisis the country is experiencing, it is the vote that is at stake. He urged “clear rules” for the next electoral processes.
“So far we don’t know what we’re getting. We want to go to the Constitutional Court to put order in this institutional mess. This must be treated seriously and responsibly. The problem of legitimacy is serious, because when it breaks down, the risks begin,” he told the media.
Ecarri also announced that he will request the formation of a constitutional commission to address the institutional crisis and that within six months he will propose options for democratic change and reforms that will pave the way for this in the future.
“The path cannot be closed and that is with Nicolás Maduro. We must restore democratic stability. The central element is peace. Mr. Maduro, please accept this request that we will make to the TSJ. On behalf of the people who oppose you. We demand that a process of debate be opened that opens historical rectifications and that spaces for debate be respected for the confrontation of ideas,” he added.
On the other hand, he indicated that he will ask that the cases of those arrested during the post-election protests be closed “so that they do not have to speak for themselves, since closing Gonzalez Urrutia’s case would be an act of injustice that would only make the idiots pay.”
