The Fuerza del Pueblo (FP) party has temporarily closed its membership register until the Congress process concludes next year.
The decision was made by the National Organizing Committee of the Congress, the highest authority of the organization during this process. According to a press release, the measure was adopted on September 4, at the meeting of the National Organizing Committee of the Ordinary National Congress Dr. Franklin Almeyda Rancier.
According to Henry Merán, general coordinator of the Congress, there is a calendar of activities that ranges from the drafting of regulations to a technical analysis of the 2024 electoral process. Merán pointed out that the first phase of the Congress includes the creation of a solid normative and regulatory base to guide the activities of the opposition organization.
At the same time, the FP reported that it has begun a registration process for the 19 thematic tables created by the Congress Organizing Committee, where proposals presented by party members will be discussed and analyzed.
The debates will begin on December 15 of this year. The National Congress will conclude on March 30, 2025, giving way to the Electoral Congress, which will bear the name of Manolo Tavárez Justo. According to Merán, the new elected authorities of the FP will be presented to the country on June 14, 2025.
The leader and president of the organization, Leonel Fernández, has warned that all positions will be subject to scrutiny by the rank and file. So far, several leaders in the FP are aspiring to the position of general secretary, such as Dionis Sánchez, Manolo Pichardo and Franklin Rodríguez.
