Santo Domingo;- The Eastern Stars announced this Sunday the signing of American first baseman and outfielder Frank Schwindel as a reinforcement for the season of the Professional Baseball League of the Dominican Republic (Lidom).
The announcement of Schwindel’s signing was made by the general manager of the green team, José Mejía, who highlighted the contribution that the American can provide, who will be in his fourth campaign in the Dominican league.
“Schwindel gives us experience and more depth at first base and in the outfield. His presence will make our lineup more solid as a middle-of-the-pack hitter,” said Mejia, who pointed to the improvement in pitch identification that Schwindel has shown over time as a positive aspect.
The Stars hope that Schwindel, who played his first two seasons (2017-2018 and 2018-2019) with them and his third with the Cibaeñas Eagles (2022-2023), shows the results he achieved with them in 2017, when he hit .317, with three home runs, nine doubles and 21 RBIs.
Schwindel, 32, is coming off a strong performance in the Atlantic League, where he played with the Long Island team, for which he played in 61 games, in which he hit the ball for an average of .325, with 14 home runs and 14 doubles and collected 56 runs batted in in 240 plate appearances, in which he struck out 33 times and received 28 walks.
The right-handed hitter with major league experience has struck out 33 of his 240 at-bats this year. He has walked 28 of his 240 plate appearances.
Schwindel joins American pitchers Zac Lowther and Walker Lockett, Panamanian Andy Otero and Cuban Jorge Martínez, as the reinforcements announced by the Stars for the Dominican winter baseball championship, which begins on October 16.
