Meanwhile, the Secretary of Citizen Security of CDMX, Pablo Vazquez Camachospecified that internally the investigation file that was opened is for the possible omission of the auxiliary police officers assigned to the Xochimilco mayor’s office, who allegedly denied service in the face of the reported attacks.
“Another case was opened for abuse or improper use of force by police when an operation was deployed to protect the facilities from the incursion of protesters and we will be investigating in coordination with civil society organizations,” he added.
“The Intelligence and Investigation teams of both departments are working to identify each of the people – as well as their origin – who arrived at the esplanade and allegedly, or as shown in many video testimonies, attacked the protesters,” said the secretary.
Just this Friday, the Attorney General’s Office of Mexico City (FGJCDMX) announced through a statement the release of five people allegedly involved in the repression and reported attacks on activists in Xochimilco.
Last Thursday, September 5, members of the Front for the Defense of the Rights of Peoples and Neighborhoods of the Anáhuac Basin reported the attacks they received during the peaceful protest in favor of activist Hortensia Telésforo, so that the charges for the crimes of dispossession would be dropped.
Through social media, it was reported that the attack was perpetrated by an alleged riot group, masked individuals who arrived and beat the protesters and destroyed their banners where their slogans were written.
Following these events, students and teachers of the Master’s in Sustainable Societies (MSS), Xochimilco campus of the Metropolitan Autonomous University (UAM) have condemned what happened, and hold the authorities of the Mexico City government responsible for the political persecution and attacks on the protesters.
