The Uruguayan Institute of Meteorology (Inumet) issued a new weather warning for the south of the country as a result of heavy rains and strong storms in the south of the country: in total it affects four departments.
The agency indicated that the risk is yellow in Montevideo, some areas of Canelones and José Ignacio (Maldonado), and orange in other parts of the Canarian department, in most of the towns of Maldonado and in Solís de Mataojo (Lavalleja).
According to the official bulletin, an atmospheric disturbance “associated with a humid and unstable air mass” is observed in the affected areas, generating storms “some punctually strong.” “It should be noted that in storm zones intense rains may be recorded in short periods, occasional hail, intense electrical activity and strong gusts of wind,” the statement added.
The alert was updated around 9:40 p.m. this Sunday after several warnings for inclement weather during the day and will be renewed around midnight or in the face of significant changes.

Lavalleja: Solis de Mataojo is under orange alert.
