In a video posted on Instagram, the mayor-elect made a prior statement only to say that he will defend his victory and to emphasize that the election has not been annulled.
“The same councillors point out that the INE does not annul elections, our election has not been annulled,” he said.
The INE detected unreported expenses in López Casarín’s campaign, which were found as a result of the investigation of two complaints, one of them filed by his adversary, Lía Limón.
The INE ruling that confirms the exceeding of the campaign limit now will be transferred to the Electoral Court of Mexico City for final resolution.
Regarding this, López Casarín highlighted that although the INE reported an excess of the campaign limit by an amount of 50,000 pesos, the election has not been annulled.
Casarín said that he and his legal team will wait for the official notification from the INE and will file appeals.
On June 2, López Casarín won the race for mayor of Álvaro Obregón, the third most populous municipality in Mexico City, with 209,000 votes.
“The people of Álvaro Obregón decided on the progressive and humanist project that was started by our president, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, and that will be continued by the first female President of Mexico, Dr. Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo,” said the Morena member.
“It is our responsibility to defend the victory of the citizens who opted for a change in the local government, as well as the consolidation of the transformation in Mexico City, led by the next Head of Government, Clara Brugada,” said López Casarín.
