Esplanade closes this Friday night for the September 7th parade

This Saturday (7), Brazil’s Independence Day holiday, the traditional civic-military parade will take place at the Esplanada dos Ministérios, in the center of the federal capital. The event is free and the public will be allowed to enter from 6:20 am on Saturday.Esplanade closes this Friday night for the September 7th parade

Vehicle traffic on the Esplanada will be interrupted on Friday night (6) between Rodoviária do Plano Piloto and the L4 road.

The parade is scheduled to start at 8:45 a.m. and 30,000 people are expected to attend. There are five access points for the public to get to the parade site, all with personal search lines, which will be carried out by military police.

Access to the Esplanade is via S1 (side of the Cathedral) and the ministries’ staircases – the first two on the south side (blocks A and C) and the first two on the north (blocks J and M). There is a grandstand exclusively for people with disabilities, in front of Block J, with adapted bathrooms and ramps.

It is not permitted to access the Esplanade with fireworks, sprays and aerosols, firearms, including toys, sharp objects, glass bottles, cans, cups, coolers and Styrofoam containers, laser pointers, masks of any kind, except for face protection, flag poles and other materials that put the safety of the public at risk. Bags and backpacks must be up to 100 centimeters in the sum of their dimensions (height, width and depth).

The organizers suggest using individual plastic bottles for hydration.

Only authorized drones will be allowed to access the airspace of the parade site. Animals in general are also not allowed, except guide dogs.

For people who are going to travel by public transportation, the bus system has been reinforced and the DF Metro is operating on a holiday schedule, from 5:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. For those who opt for transportation through apps, the disembarkation is on the upper platform of the Plano Piloto Bus Station. For taxis, the stop is at the Sesi Lab parking lot, next to the bus station.

Transit

During the event, inspection teams from Detran and the Military Police will control traffic to promote fluidity, prevent irregularities and ensure the safety of drivers and pedestrians.

Access to Praça dos Três Poderes is also restricted, as is the section between the 1st Fire Brigade Group, passing through L4 Sul, and reaching the vicinity of Ponte JK (direction Plano Piloto – Lago Sul). The armored vehicles that will participate in the parade are sheltered there.

There are exclusive grandstands and platforms for authorities and guests and the N2 road is blocked to support the parade and to screen this public. The N3, S2 and S3 roads will have free traffic.

As a parking option for those using their own car, the event organizers recommend the ministry annexes, the South and North banking sectors and the upper platform of the Plano Piloto Bus Station.

The buses of the parade participants have a reserved space in the parking lot at Praça da Cidadania, next to the National Theater.

The roads will be reopened after the public has dispersed, based on an assessment of the situation by security authorities.

Health

Fire Department teams will be at different points on the Esplanade and may be called upon, in addition to vehicles for first aid and pre-hospital emergencies, fires and rescues.

The military can also be contacted by calling 193 at any time.

Due to the strong sun and high temperatures, authorities recommend wearing light clothing, sunscreen, caps or hats. It is also advisable to drink plenty of water and eat lighter foods.

Security

Next to the Museum of the Republic, the Federal District government set up the Public Security City to serve as a support point for security forces and other agencies involved in the event. Images from drones and cameras located at the Military Police mobile command will contribute to policing.

There are no demonstrations registered with the Federal District Public Security Secretariat for this Saturday.

The Civil Police Mobile Station will be on site to register police incidents and block stolen or robbed cell phones, through the Fora da Rede program.

The 5th Police Station located in the central region, as well as the Women’s Assistance Station I (Deam I), which is located in Asa Sul, and the Children and Adolescents’ Police Station (DCA) will have reinforcement in service and field teams.

Guardians and staff from the Children and Youth Court will also be in the City of Safety to assist lost children. Parents and guardians are advised to identify their children to facilitate access to information if they get lost.

Tributes

This year’s September 7 celebrations are organized around three themes. One of them addresses the strategic importance of holding the G20 Summit in Brazil in November, in Rio de Janeiro, and during the parade, the 21 flags of the countries and regional blocs that make up the group will be presented. Brazil holds the presidency of the G20, a group of the 19 largest economies in the world, the European Union and the African Union.

The parade will also pay tribute to efforts to support Rio Grande do Sul, with the participation of professionals who worked to help the state during the floods and inundations that affected the people of Rio Grande do Sul in May.

The third axis will emphasize the resumption of broad protection of children and the population through vaccination campaigns and the expansion of health care services, with the resumption of the Mais Médicos program.

Students from public schools in the Federal District, athletes who represented Brazil at the Paris Olympic Games and representatives of the Armed Forces will take part in the civic-military parade. There will be a presentation of the Human Pyramid of the Army Police Battalion and the Smoke Squadron.
