INE: Lopez Casarin exceeds expenses; Court will decide election in Alvaro Obregon

The INE detected unreported expenses in López Casarín’s campaign, which were found as a result of the investigation of two complaints, one filed by his adversary, Lía Limón.

The then candidate of the coalition We Will Continue Making History, made up of Morena, the Labor Party (PT) and the Green Ecologist Party of Mexico (PVEM), had declared expenses for 2 million 484,868 pesos.

However, after the investigation, expenses were determined on Facebook, utilities, video production, health brigades, tarps and contributions from prohibited entities, for 1 million 35, 585 pesoswhich represented an increase of 6.70%.

During the General Council session of the INE, a criterion was modified to revalue the 70 publications on social networks, considering the highest value in the price matrix (as ordered by the audit rules in cases of detecting unreported expenditures), but the cost of advertising was discounted, around 740.74 pesos per image, which lowered the amount of the override.

This brought the total spending of López Casarín –close to Marcelo Ebrard– to around 3 million 500,000 pesos –30,000 pesos less than expected, meaning that the mayor-elect would have exceeded the spending limit by just under 200,000 pesos, or 5.8%.
