Mayor of Carirubana (Falcón) resigns from office for health reasons

Opposition councillors for Concecarirubana Jorge Luis Ruiz and Roraima Atacho, denounced the “illegal” swearing-in of the Secretary General of the Government of Falcón, Luis Manuel Piña, as substitute for Abel Petit, former mayor of Carirubana

The mayor of the Carirubana municipality, Falcón state, Abel Petit, confirmed this Thursday, September 5, that he is resigning from his position.

In a statement, the mayor explained that a delicate health situation, which has undermined his physical condition, led him to make the decision.

On his Instagram account, Petit posted a short statement in which he highlighted his political training in the principles of work.

“I am deeply satisfied to have worked from the people, with the people, for the people and for the people,” said Petit.

Carirubana and Falcon

Carirubana is the most important commercial and industrial municipality in the state.

Petit emerged in politics under the guidance of his former mentor Alcides Goitia, who was mayor of the municipality four times, first being a councilor, then a regional deputy and then mayor; he reviewed The Morning.

Irregularities in its replacement

In a press release issued by the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV) in the Carirubana municipality, it was reported that the now former general secretary of the Falcón Government, Luis Manuel Piña, was sworn in as acting mayor of this Paraguanero municipality.

The swearing-in ceremony was carried out by the president of the Carirubana municipal chamber to complete the 2021-2025 constitutional period.

Hours later, the opposition councilors to Concecarirubana, Jorge Luis Ruiz and Roraima Atacho, denounced the “illegality” of Piña’s swearing-in ceremony: they claim that they were not summoned to the session where the resignation of Mayor Abel Petit was presented to the municipal chamber, as established by the internal and debate regulations; reported The Morning.

The councillors warn that Piña’s appointment violates article 87 of the Municipal Public Power Law.
