Rodolfo Hernández, who passed away on September 2, will be remembered as one of the most controversial figures in Colombian politics in recent years. The name of the former presidential candidate began to resonate strongly in the country during his administration as mayor of Bucaramanga, a period marked by numerous events that captured national attention.

Engineer Rodolfo Hernández had four children, who from a young age showed interest in following in his footsteps. Among them was Juliana, whom they adopted in the 1970s, when Hernández and his wife, Socorro Oliveros, were facing difficulties conceiving. Juliana was known as the “apple of his eye” and her story moved Colombians during her presidential campaign in a debate organized by the magazine WeekHernandez couldn’t hold back his tears as he remembered his daughter.

Years later, when she was already an adult, Juliana moved to live independently and was studying Law at the Santo Tomás University in Bucaramanga. On one occasion, she decided to attend some festivals in Ocaña, Norte de Santander, accompanied by friends, despite her father having asked her not to go. During this trip, Juliana and her university classmates rented a farm to stay. However, men entered the farm and took Juliana and another classmate, who was released days later as she had no money to pay for her release.

The Hernandez family launched an intense search to find Juliana, contacting intermediaries and armed groups in an effort to obtain clues about her whereabouts. Despite their efforts, the search was unsuccessful. and accepting the loss, with the pain of not having been able to fulfill the desire to find the “apple of his eye.”
