The Minister of Government (Mingob), Dinoska Montalvo, together with the Secretary General, Ángel Calderón, and the General Director of the National Civil Protection System (Sinaproc), Omar Smith, led a key meeting on Wednesday, October 4, 2024, to coordinate the First National Drill. This exercise, scheduled for Monday, October 14, seeks to strengthen the preparation and response of state institutions to emergencies and disasters.
Montalvo expressed his satisfaction with the cooperation of the participants and stressed the importance of acting promptly and in a coordinated manner. “The favourable climate will help us to carry out this drill in an optimal manner,” he said, stressing the need for teamwork and early action.
Smith presented the roadmap for the drill, which will involve the participation of more than 28 institutions, and emphasized the importance of educating the population on how to act in emergency situations. The Mingob communication team, led by Diana González and Manuel Batista, will focus on raising awareness and training citizens to foster a culture of prevention.
The director of the Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology of Panama, Luz Graciela Calzadilla, offered an overview of the climate outlook, addressing global warming and the hurricane season.
