The Ombudsman’s Office issued a statement reiterating the right to protest guaranteed by the Political Constitution of the State (CPE), in response to the Civic strike called by the Santa Cruz Pro Committee for this Friday, September 6. However, the institution also called on protesters to exercise this right within the limits of the law and in a peaceful manneravoiding acts of violence both physical and verbal.

“It is essential that during the strike, respect is given to third parties and vulnerable populations, such as: children, adolescents, older adults, pregnant women and people with disabilities,” says the statement, which also urges the organizers of the mobilization to ensure the free passage of ambulances and vehicles “transporting people in emergency situations or victims of violence,” the document reads.

The Ombudsman also stressed the importance of learning from recent experiences in which rights were violated during similar demonstrations.

“We call for reflection so that Prioritize the needs of people at risk and require special attention,” the institution said.

To address any complaints of rights violations during the strike, the Ombudsman’s Office has set up its free telephone line 800 10 8004 and a WhatsApp number, 72137404, to ensure a quick and effective response.
