These are the most important news of September 4, 2024

Dictator Daniel Ortega ordered his deputies to reform Law 406, the Nicaraguan Criminal Procedure Code (CPP), to grant suprajudicial powers to the Sandinista Police so that they can raid, seize electronic and computer equipment, demand information from telephone companies on calls, text and voice messages, geolocation and even block bank accounts without a court order.

The political operators of the dictatorship and their collaborators, who serve as deputies in the National Assembly, decided to send to the Justice and Legal Affairs Commission for consultation and opinion, the Initiative of the “Law of Reforms and Additions to Law No. 406, Criminal Procedure Code (CPP)”, proposed by their political leader, who had previously ordered that the Criminal Code be reformed.

With the proposed reform and addition, the new article 230 of the Criminal Procedure Code, in its sections 9, 10, 12 and 13, grants authority to the Police at the service of the dictatorship to request information from computer service providers (internet providers).

The repressive institution is also given the power to demand from telephone companies “information on the owners of mobile and fixed telephone lines, associated services, list of calls, text and voice messages, geolocation, location of transmitting and receiving antennas.”

In other words, the reformed law will turn internet and telephone companies into spies at the service of the dictatorship.

Nothing escapes the spying system that the dictatorship is setting up through the reform of the CPP, as it empowers the Police to demand from IT companies the “subscriber identity module number, internet protocol addresses, the international identity of a mobile device and the users linked to the equipment of telephone companies.”

Similarly, the new CPP gives the police the right to “carry out searches, raids, inspections and seizures that are necessary” and to do so they are not required to carry a court order because the reform to the legal norm grants them, in “urgent cases” a period of up to three days to validate police actions before a judge, also a Sandinista.

Ortega continues to eliminate government agencies and merge them with other institutions, and this time it was the turn of the Secretariat of Climate Change of the Presidency, which was eliminated, and its functions were transferred to the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (Marena), where Javier Gutiérrez Ramírez was appointed as vice-minister for Climate Change, who had already been fired from that position once.

By Presidential Decree 12-2024, published in La Gaceta, official journal number 164, this Wednesday, September 4, dictator Ortega orders the “transfer of functions of the Secretariat of Climate Change of the Presidency of the Republic to the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources.”

Article 1 of the decree establishes that “the functions and powers of the Secretariat for Climate Change of the Presidency of the Republic will be assumed by the Ministry of the Environment and Natural Resources in accordance with the provisions of Law No. 217, General Law of the Environment and Natural Resources.”

For this reason, Marena is the “seamless successor” of the Secretariat of Climate Change, such that “in all Nicaraguan legal systems where the Secretariat of Climate Change of the Presidency of the Republic is mentioned, from now on it should be read as the Ministry of the Environment and Natural Resources.”

Miss Universe co-owner Raúl Rocha, in an interview with the podcast “No lo contares”, hosted by communicator Carlos Adyan, confirmed that Nicaraguan beauty Sheynnis Palacios, Miss Universe 2023, has a trip to Nicaragua on her agenda.

«She loves Nicaragua, as she says, her triumph is Nicaragua’s, the Nicaraguans’. The people love her, we experience it all over the world, in all the countries that one can’t even imagine, she is in Asia and there are Nicaraguans and they all go to celebrate with her, to get close to her and, without a doubt, it is part of the entire agenda that she has for her to be able to also be in Nicaragua and share with the Nicaraguans,» said Rocha when asked about the possibility of Palacios coming to his native country.

The confirmation of Palacios’ arrival in Nicaragua occurs just two weeks after the Ortega-Murillo dictatorship, through official media, authorized the dissemination of articles against the beauty queen, calling her “The Patriotic Weeper.”

Palacios, crowned Miss Universe 2023 on November 18, was the first to reveal on July 14 that there were possibilities of coming to Nicaragua. The beauty from Diriamba assured that the organization is in preparations, although no one dares to give an exact date.
