Espaillat. Of the 15 community centers built in communities in the Espaillat province, only two are functioning and the rest are in a state of abandonment.

Representatives of community organizations, neighborhood associations and popular groups headed by members of the Pilgrims of Moca movement criticize the neglect of these spaces.

Social activist Juan Comprés calls on the new authorities of the Dominican Institute of Telecommunications (Indotel) to intervene in the centers.

He said that only those of Juan López and Winston Arnaud de los López (Moca) are working, but the others are abandoned, such as those in the José Contreras municipal district (Villa Trina), Jamao al Norte, Gaspar Hernández, San Víctor, Ortega, El Higüerito, Bonagua, Cayetano Germosén, six others in the main municipality of Moca, as well as those in Canca la Reyna, Monte de la Jagua, La Laguna.

Intervention

The community technology centers, computer training centers and digital rooms that were installed between 2004 and 2010 were built during the José Rafael Vargas administration in front of Indotel.

Comprés said that since 2010, these centers have been abandoned by Indotel.

Faced with this worrying situation, Guanchi Comprés has made a public plea to the president of the Dominican Institute of Telecommunications (Indotel), Guido Gómez Mazara, to reactivate the community centers that, in his opinion, are essential for the development and well-being of local communities.

The community members are asking for financial resources to be provided for its operation.

Director of centers says they are working well

The general director of the Community Technology Centers (CTC) in Moca, Isidro Torres, assures that these spaces are operating at full capacity. Torres said that in Moca all of the centers have been strengthened and, in addition to being sanitized, are in decent conditions to receive young people. He reports that the centers in San Víctor and Juan López are working well.
