Investment of $3.1 billion for the Barrancabermeja refinery announced

Within the framework of the celebration of the 100 years of the Barrancabermeja refinery, the National Government announced the investment of 3.1 billion pesos for its modernization. This budget item is added to the 3.4 billion pesos that the Government of President Duque has invested in this Ecopetrol plant.

“So far our Government has invested $3.4 billion in the Refinery, and in what corresponds to this year, between now and 2024, an additional $3.1 billion will come, the largest investment that a Government has made in the Barrancabermeja Refinery”said.

The new investment, according to Ecopetrol, will be destined to the incorporation of technology, the modernization and reliability of its plants and environmental management. The objective is to consolidate Barrancabermeja as one of the most modern refining centers in the continent, with an operation that is safer, cleaner and more profitable every day.

“Above all, when we see those voices of demagoguery and populism that invite this sector to end. Perhaps those who promote these ideas do not know that this sector represents the greatest attraction of foreign direct investment, the greatest source of royalties, the greatest source of taxes, the greatest source in the national foreign exchange market”said the President.

He recalled that, in addition to energy, the Barrancabermeja Refinery produces strategic resources for the country, such as the asphalt with which the roads of the country are paved and elements derived from propylene for the production of food and textiles.

“If we did not have this industry today in our country, the cost of a gallon of gasoline would be more than 20 thousand pesos and gas prices would triple. So today we celebrate 100 years of Colombia’s energy independence, 100 years of our country’s ability to have that autonomy.” he claimed.
