“Negotiations (regarding the use of clean energy) began a month ago. We are very close to reaching consensus. We are one paragraph away from this deliverable that Peru hopes will be approved this year. It includes the guidelines for implementing low-emission hydrogen in the Asia-Pacific,” Peru’s senior APEC official, Renato Reyes Tagle, told Peru21.

“This puts APEC in a cutting-edge forum, a laboratory of good practices,” he added.

Congruence

According to Reyes Tagle, the goal is that, no later than this Friday 16, the energy ministers will close this meeting with the consensus of having approved the principles to implement the use of hydrogen, as well as the APEC Ministerial Declaration on Energy.

He explained that the principles to be agreed upon are based on the extraction of key areas that help standardize standards and certifications for hydrogen production, so that it can interoperate in the different economies of the forum.

“The goal is to ensure that, when implementing the use of this clean fuel, there is consistency in the ecosystem, which includes the development of investments, access to financing, adequate infrastructure and the training of the actors involved in hydrogen production. In addition, it is essential to raise public awareness about the importance of developing this type of energy,” said Reyes Tagle.
