Dominican minister condemns theft of Venezuelan presidential plane

The Dominican Minister for Regional Integration Policies and Secretary General of the United Left Movement (MIU), Miguel Mejía, condemned the illegal seizure by the United States of an aircraft used by the President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, and noted that this action is totally separate from international law.

According to the Venezuelan News Agency, citing Latin PressMejía pointed out that the actions of the Government of the Dominican Republic call into question the sovereignty of its people, since, according to him, the Executive of that country knew that the aircraft belonged to the Venezuelan Government, because that nation carried out a process of claiming it, which had been held at the El Higüero airport since May.

He said that the Dominican government is lying to the people. “The government cannot say today that this plane does not belong to Venezuela, regardless of the fact that it is registered in the name of another company from that country. That is not the fact, they know that this is a plane from the Venezuelan government,” he reiterated.

Given this context, Mejía said that he will call on the leadership of his party to explain and tell the truth about this incident.

It is important to remember that last Monday, through a statement, the Venezuelan Foreign Ministry denounced before the international community that, once again, the authorities of the United States of America, in a practice that they branded as “repeat criminal,” illegally confiscated an aircraft that has been used by the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro.

The justification for the seizure of the aircraft is based on the more than 930 unilateral coercive measures that the US has imposed on the country, once again ignoring international law.
