The mayor of Lima and leader of Popular Renewal, Rafael Lopez Aliagaquestioned on Wednesday the money that has been used to rescue the state-owned company Petroperú and said that the Minister of Economy “continues to give it more money.”

“Petroperú cannot continue to be the petty cash box of a mafia group and no one says anything. The Minister of Economy is still in the debt law, he keeps giving it more money. It is almost a billion dollars more that are postponed until 2028,” he said.

On the other hand, the mayor of Lima questioned the Public Budget Bill for Fiscal Year 2025, presented by the Executive Branch, because he believes that “it has a similar pattern to the previous ones.”

“Almost 90% of this goes to current expenditure, to consultancies, and we believe that there must be an end to this issue,” he said.

The municipal authority met with the RP bench in the Congress of the Republicto agree on the position regarding next year’s budget. During a press conference at the Legislative Palace, López Aliaga assured that the budget that is intended to be approved must have a current spending limit.

“This budget has to be the model for the following budgets. Because if we set a rule, a limit, if a municipality, a regional government or a ministry has income of 100, [entonces] that there be a ratio: 50 for current expenditure, zero for consultancies and 50 for investment, which is what the country is crying out for,” he said.

In this regard, he stressed that the priority of public funds should be citizen security.
