Singer-songwriter Amaury Gutiérrez: “arrested at airport for calling an immigration agent a communist”

AREQUIPA, Peru – The Cuban singer-songwriter Amaury Gutierrez reported on Tuesday about the possible cancellation of his performances in Colombia, after the authorities at the Cartagena airport prevented him and his team from entering the country.

“Unfortunately, I find myself in the need to inform you that my scheduled performances in Colombia may have to be postponed due to unforeseen circumstances beyond our control,” the artist announced. on Instagram.

In a statement to his fans and the general public, Gutierrez explained that the immigration department in Cartagena, Colombia, did not allow him or his team to enter the country.

“We are being held in conditions that are not the best. They won’t let us return to Miami or go to another country on a different airline, only the one we came with,” explained the singer-songwriter, who added that there were no flights available to Miami until Wednesday.

Meanwhile, authorities detained the artist in a room with his manager, forcing him to sleep on the floor with all his belongings, the statement said.

In one second publicationGutiérrez explained the reasons for his arrest, pointing out that he was “imprisoned” for “calling an immigration agent a communist” who mistreated him.

“I have never been treated so badly in my life, only in Cuba when I was a slave,” the composer stressed.

In light of this situation, the Cuban singer-songwriter regretted the inconvenience this could cause to all those who were hoping to enjoy his performances. He also acknowledged the support and understanding in what he described as a “difficult and uncomfortable moment.”

Cubanet contacted Aliuska Gutiérrez, the musician’s sister, who confirmed that Amaury would be sent back to Miami on Thursday afternoon.

In an interview with Enrique Santos, the Cuban singer-songwriter explained that the altercation began when they arrived in Colombia, and did not want to let his manager, an American citizen, through without giving him an explanation. Gutiérrez explained that they were mistreated by two agents. For this reason, Amaury pointed out the similarity of the treatment they received with that offered by the communists.
