In 2022, the National Secretariat for the Promotion and Defense of the Rights of the Elderly will continue the agreement signed with the Federal Revenue Service last year, through which the taxpayer can, when declaring the Income Tax, allocate part of the resources due to elderly person funds. In the case of individuals, up to 3% of the tax due can be donated. For legal entities, the amount is 1%.
Last year, donations made through this mechanism totaled more than R$50 million. This year, the expectation is that the value will be higher. The information comes from the secretary Antonio Costa, interviewee of the program Brazil on the agendawhich airs this Sunday (20), on TV Brazil.
According to the secretary, the money is to enable municipal and state councils and funds aimed at the elderly. “Alone, the Union will not be able to overcome this great challenge”, said Costa. Data from the Ministry of Health indicate that Brazil has the fifth largest elderly population in the world.
During the interview, the secretary spoke about the assistance given to long-stay institutions – known as asylums – during the pandemic. With emergency aid alone, R$ 160 million were allocated to around 80,000 elderly people in nursing homes.
Another topic addressed was the fight against violence against the elderly. The secretary revealed that, next month, the National Protection Network for the Elderly should be launched.
