Vice-foreign minister rejects Canada’s “cynicism” for ignoring fascist violence in Venezuela

Vice-foreign minister rejects Canada's "cynicism" for ignoring fascist violence in Venezuela

Deputy Minister for North America Carlos Ron condemned the statements made by the Government of Canada that sided with one of the leaders of the Venezuelan far right.

“It is increasingly shameful how Canada demonstrates its lack of independence and initiative in its foreign policy. It is reproducing a script of lies provided by its bosses in Washington,” the vice-chancellor denounced in a publication in Telegram.

He said the Canadian government is making unfounded accusations that ignore Venezuelan institutions and the democratic will of its people.

“He cynically talks about freedoms and fear without mentioning the wave of fascist violence that took the lives of 25 people, nor questioning the contempt of justice by a former candidate who, although he claims to be the winner, never appeared before the courts or before the electoral authority to challenge the results,” Ron argued.

He asserted that Canada intends to “lead a Lima Group 2.0 for a Guaidó 2.0 but will only achieve a new and resounding failure. When Canada is able to express its own foreign policy and stops being an instrument of the United States to cover up criminal actors who threaten Venezuelan peace and democracy, we will take note of its considerations.”
