STF extends deadline for government to present action plan for Amazon

Within this period, according to a note from the STF, the government must indicate an internet portal to disclose actions and reports on what was done to comply with the STF decision in the Argument of Non-Compliance with Fundamental Precept (ADPF) 760.

Minister Mendonça’s decision also established the provision of consolidated reports on the measures adopted prior to the ADPF trial. Measures currently being taken to effectively combat deforestation, fires and other illegal activities that result in damage to the biome must also be included. This will allow for a breakdown of the scenarios and the evaluation of the plans presented.

Provisions

The minister is responsible for drafting the ruling for the ADPF 760 trial. In the text, the Court ordered the Union, among other points, to adopt measures within the scope of the Action Plan for the Prevention and Control of Deforestation in the Legal Amazon (PPCDAm) and other programs to reduce deforestation in the Legal Amazon to a rate of 3,925 km per year by 2027 and to zero by 2030.

The initial deadline set by the Court for the submission of the plan ended on August 26. In granting the AGU’s request, the minister took into consideration the need for an integrated examination of other actions involving specific agencies and bodies, such as the Brazilian Institute of the Environment and Renewable Natural Resources (IBAMA), the Chico Mendes Institute for Biodiversity Conservation (ICMBio) and the National Foundation for Indigenous Peoples (FUNAI).
