MADRID, Spain.- In 2008, Cuban Television premiered Dust in the winda telenovela that focused on highly relevant social and human issues. Directed by José Luis Mederos and Xiomara Blanco —the latter recognized by others as Wild land and Forbidden Destiny—, and with an original script by Silvio Hernández Labory, this production broke with some typical clichés of the genre, addressing extreme situations and complex moral dilemmas with an innovative narrative.
The plot of Dust in the wind The soap opera was distinguished by its realistic treatment of themes such as romantic misunderstandings, infidelity and illness. Among the most striking characters is David, a young man diagnosed with HIV/AIDS, whose love for Liuba, a philosophy teacher, challenges social norms and confronts incomprehension and stigma. The soap opera also addressed internal migration in Cuba, portraying the reality of those forced to move to Havana.
Another theme that the series reflected was homosexuality, from the dilemma of a woman who surprises her husband in bed with another man, an approach that has rarely been dealt with in the Cuban television. In addition, the story is presented of a mother who, after abandoning her young daughter to emigrate, returns twenty years later, and faces the consequences of her decision.
Dust in the wind It was also distinguished by its narrative innovation, using large ellipses to maintain a fast pace and avoid repetition, a technique uncommon in Cuban television scripts.
The cast, headed by Yory Gómez, María Karla Fernández, Lieter Ledesma and Rodolfo Faxas, included great figures such as Enrique Molina, Eslinda Nunezby Jorge Martínez.
