The Brazilian Society for the Advancement of Science (SBPC) has opened registration for the 6th edition of the Carolina Bori Science & Women Award. Registration is open until October 31st.
The SBPC initiative has already awarded 22 scientists, with different categories each year. This year, the award is dedicated to high school and college students who intend to pursue a career in science.
The goal is to recognize talented young women whose scientific initiation research demonstrates creativity, methodological rigor, and potential to contribute to the future of science in the country. In the last edition dedicated to this category, in 2022, the SBPC received a total of 446 nominations and the expectation is that this year, the number of candidates will be even greater.
To participate, interested students must register for the competition through online formand must observe the evaluation criteria available in the notice. Interested parties must be nominated by teachers, advisors, school coordinators or organizers of national science olympiads and fairs.
Six winners will be selected, three of whom will be high school students and three will be college students. Undergraduate students can choose to compete in the following areas of knowledge: Engineering, Exact and Earth Sciences, Humanities or Biological and Health Sciences.
The winners of the contest will be announced by January 20, 2025.
They will receive a trophy and will have the opportunity to present their projects at the 77th Annual Meeting of the SBPC, in July 2025. They will also participate in mentoring with renowned researchers, providing a unique opportunity for development in their scientific careers.
The awards ceremony will take place on February 11, 2025, and the event will be broadcast live on the SBPC YouTube Channel. The date was chosen to commemorate the International Day of Women and Girls in Science.
