Unidolor will hold a workshop to diagnose and treat pelvic pain

Currently, 25% of women and 17% of men in the world suffer from chronic pelvic pain and do not receive proper treatment. For this reason and with great interest in making positive contributions to society, the Interventional Pain and Palliative Care Unit (Unidolor), the first in the Dominican Republic dedicated to treating pain, has announced a day for its evaluation and treatment.

This activity marks the opening of the Unidadlor chronic pelvic pain management clinic and is scheduled to take place throughout the month of September in Santo Domingo. It will also address the diagnosis and identification of treatment for other types of pain such as acute or post-surgical pain.

On this occasion, the event will be supported by the Pharmatech laboratory, which provides attendees with medicines to treat specific pains, which will be correctly diagnosed.

Pelvic pain is considered one of the most common pathologies, especially among women, particularly in childbearing age, and represents a problem in gynecological consultations, both in diagnosing the cause and in providing the appropriate treatment. However, pelvic pain in men can be quite common, since it is estimated that between 8% and 12% of men will suffer from PCP at some point.

More specifically, chronic pelvic pain refers to constant discomfort or disorder in the area below the navel between the hips that lasts for six months or more.

Dr. Bethania Martínez del Villar, director of Unidolor and specialist in pain and palliative care, emphasizes the importance of patients knowing and understanding their right to not feel pain. For this reason, from the institution she directs, she has worked for more than 10 years in the management and treatment of all types of painful conditions, especially those that do not respond to conventional treatment.

Within the scope of pelvic pain, Unidolor implements a new advance by offering this service, not only in the Dominican Republic, but also for all international patients who wish to be evaluated and find a solution to chronic pelvic pain.

In this regard, Martínez del Villar has highlighted that although pain was previously treated as a simple symptomatology, since 2017, the World Health Organization (WHO) has classified it as a disease and its treatment as a human right.

As a result, there is a need to treat pain in specific patients, such as those with cancer, a service that is added to the portfolio of Unidolor, which also offers chemotherapy, home care, telemedicine, imaging, sample collection, psychological consultation and more.

Those interested in being evaluated, both during and outside of work hours, can contact Unidolor through its different digital platforms and by phone at 809-636-3656.
