ONDA trains several prosecutors on copyright issues

The Dominican Republic is moving towards respecting the Copyright Law and international agreements on the subject. The National Copyright Office is advancing in training personnel on this specific subject.

José Rubén Gonell Cosme, director general of ONDA, has carried out an outstanding job at the head of this institution, creating more and more awareness regarding the due respect for copyright. He recently organized, together with his team, the seminar “Training on Compliance in Copyright and Collective Management Societies”.

The training seminar, held both virtually and in person, began at the beginning of August and concluded last Friday, August 30. Prosecutors from all provinces of the country and the National District participated in it, and were trained in intellectual property, mainly in copyright.

The educational activity was taught in several modules under the coordination of the ONDA Training and Development Center, directed by Fanny Suero and Wilkis Santana, as well as by magistrates Jonathan Baró and Isis de la Cruz.

In the specialized training “Copyright Enforcement and Collective Management Societies”, more than 100 enforcement officers and support staff nationwide were trained on the importance of copyright protection and knowledge of the role of collective management societies.

The seminar, which opened and closed at the Catalonia Hotel in the capital, was attended by Gonell Cosme, Mariano Lantigua -Aljadaqui-, Silvio Mora, Cinthya Montero, Héctor Peña, Henry García and Valerio de León, among others. The seminar had a practical approach and was based on experiences of enforcement in legal cases of copyright.
