Young baseball talent, son of Yoanis Delgado, manages to leave Cuba

SAN LUIS POTOSÍ, Mexico.- The grandson of the legendary baseball player José Raúl Delgado and son of the late Yoanis Delgado, arrived this Sunday Dominican Republicfrom where he will seek to sign a contract with the Major Leagues.

Jonathan Raul, young catcher member of the last Cuba U-15 team, will continue his career outside the Island and pursue an opportunity with an MLB team, according to reported journalist Francys Romero.

“The 15-year-old switch hitter and member of the last Cuban U-15 team is in the Dominican Republic and will now begin a new stage in his career. Delgado has baseball in his blood, as his grandfather is José Raúl Delgado, a catcher for 20 seasons in the National Series and a member of the Cuban team between 1989 and 1993, with which he won the gold medal at the Barcelona 92 ​​Olympic Games.

He also represented Cuba at the 2000 Canada Youth Baseball World Cup, the 2002 Harlem International Tournament, and the 2002 Messina University Baseball World Cup.

Yoanis Delgado’s last National Series was the 49th (2010). His last appearances as an active player were in provincial events in Sancti Spíritus.
