Santo Domingo, DR.- The director of Maintenance and School Infrastructure of the Ministry of Education of the Dominican Republic (Minerd), Fernando Taveras, reported that about One hundred school campuses will be delivered to the public education system in the remainder of this year year 2024.
The official stated, when participating in the radio program Z101 that was broadcast from the headquarters of the educational institution, that other school infrastructures are between 85 and 90 percent phase of termination.
Taveras also said that the Minerd is developing a program related to the environment of school facilities that has to do with access, lighting, signage and speed reducer to create an ideal condition in that environment.
In addition, he said that the Open and Active Schools program is underway with multipurpose rooms that, in addition to being used as a dining room for students, are used by community members; just like the sports court and court roofs, of which 168 are in progress.
“These are significant areas with a great impact on any remote region,” he said.
Likewise, Taveras stated that this Government administration inherited 722 school buildings under construction, and that in order to continue these works, it issued the Law 118-21, which is temporary. He said that of those schools 157 were finished and others eliminated because they have neither land nor money.
The director of School Infrastructure and Maintenance explained that the Minerd It is responsible for carrying out major repair work in the country’s educational centers, which are carried out after a request is made through the corresponding educational district management, but minor interventions such as, for example, a broken key or pipe, or a broken window, are the responsibility of the school.
Regarding the decentralization of resources in the department he heads, Taveras indicated that this is done through a framework contract to provide a quick response to any situation that may arise in a given locality, in addition to being a way of creating sources of work in each of the regions.
