Brazil has more than 6.5 million probable cases of dengue this year

From January to August of this year, Brazil recorded 6,500,835 probable cases of dengue fever. Data from the Ministry of Health’s Arbovirus Monitoring Panel also report 5,244 confirmed deaths and 1,985 under investigation for the disease. The incidence rate of dengue fever in the country, at this time, is 3,201.4 cases for every group of 100,000 inhabitants.Brazil has more than 6.5 million probable cases of dengue this year

The figures show that 55% of dengue cases were identified among women and 45% among men. The age groups that accounted for the most infections by the disease are 20 to 29 years old; 30 to 39 years old; and 40 to 49 years old. The groups least affected are children under 1 year old; elderly people aged 80 or over; and children aged 1 to 4 years old.

São Paulo leads the ranking of states that have recorded the highest number of severe dengue cases or cases with warning signs this year, with a total of 24,825 cases. Next come Minas Gerais (15,101), Paraná (13,535) and the Federal District (10,212). The states with the fewest severe cases or cases with warning signs are Roraima (3), Acre (11), Rondônia (33) and Sergipe (62).
