2 Colombians caught as partners of illegal miners

Military agents arrested two Colombian men accused of providing logistics for illegal mining activities in the Yapakana National Park, Amazonas.

Such information was aired on his social networks by Domingo Hernández Lárez, head of the Strategic Operational Command of the Bolivarian National Armed Forces (Ceofan). The subjects were traveling through the Orinoco, Panoráma sector, Atabapo municipality (Amazonas) from the department of Guainia, Colombia. They were identified as James Sepúlveda Vargas (36) and Luis Alberto Rojas Ortiz (62).

The boat was carrying 1,400 liters of gasoline, two diving suits, a diving mask, a 296-liter storage freezer, 150 kilos of food, 3 boxes of assorted confectionery, 13 boxes of soft drinks and 12 flashlights, among other materials that were seized.

“In Amazonas, according to our territorial legal system, mining and hydrocarbon exploitation is totally prohibited,” stressed Hernández Lárez.
