Since midnight, the Camiri population and the Interinstitutional Committee of this municipality installed a Blockade on Route 9, at the height of the Parapetí River bridge, interrupting the route that connects Bolivia with Argentina. The measure responds to the persistent crisis in the administration of Coopagal RL, the cooperative responsible for providing drinking water in the region.
The protesters denounce the lack of justice and the intimidation suffered by citizens, and demand the construction of a wastewater treatment plant for the northern part of the municipality.
“We have been waiting for a solution for more than 20 years. The Parapetí River is in danger of drying up and people could be forced to consume contaminated water. “We want the authorities to listen to us,” said a neighborhood leader.
The blockade, planned to last 24 hoursis already creating long lines of vehicles on both sides of the road and is affecting traffic on this important international highway.
