The Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America (ALBA) expressed solidarity this Saturday with the Government of Honduras in the face of the US interferenceafter the president of the Central American country, Xiomara Castro, terminated the bilateral extradition treaty with the North American country.
“The member states of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America-People’s Trade Treaty (ALBA-TCP) express their solidarity with the people and the Government of the Republic of Honduras in the face of interference by the Government of the United States in their internal affairs,” the bloc wrote in a statement published on X.
He also expressed his support for Castro and for the actions he believes are pertinent for the “defense of his sovereignty.”
ALBA called on the international community to condemn “these blatant acts of interventionism by any country that aim to cause chaos in sister nations and to destabilize the entire region.”

President Xiomara Castro on Wednesday repealed the extradition treaty with the United States, amid diplomatic tension with Washington’s ambassador in Tegucigalpa, Laura Dogu, for criticizing a recent meeting between Honduran authorities and Venezuelan Defense Minister Vladimir Padrino López.
On August 29, Honduran Foreign Minister Enrique Reina warned of an attempt to divide the Honduran Armed Forces following comments by U.S. Ambassador Laura Dogu.
Reina said in a television interview that the country’s intelligence services had detected an attempted “coup” that was allegedly motivated by recent statements by US ambassador Laura Dogu.
According to Reina, the plan sought to divide the Armed Forces, with some sectors trying to remove military chief Rossvelt Hernández.
Meanwhile, the U.S. government urged Honduras to reconsider its decision to terminate the bilateral extradition treaty and noted that the pact remains in force for the time being.
On Friday, the National Defense and Security Council of Honduras (CNDS) accused the United States of trying to destabilize the Honduran government and expressed its support for the president’s decision.
After concluding a meeting of the CNDS, the Honduran Minister of Security, Gustavo Sánchez, said that “a vote of confidence and total support” has been given to Castro “in the face of the attacks and threats from the Embassy of the United States of America, which seek to destabilize the democratic institutionality of the State, against the mandate of the Honduran people, who democratically elected the President of the Republic,” EFE reports.
