Former Minister of Health, Abel Salinas, described the evaluation for the Rural and Marginal Urban Health Service (Serums) 2024-II by the Ministry of Health (Minsa) as “total nonsense” because it puts people’s lives at risk.
According to the former head of the Minsa, this evaluation does not solve the problem of the academic quality of health sciences students and he said that the management of the current minister César Vásquez “is absolutely deficient.”
As is known, this Sunday more than 13 thousand health professionals took the evaluation to access the places in Serums 2024-II nationwide. The results will be announced no later than Monday, September 2.
It should be noted that by supreme decree the evaluation was put in charge of the Ministry of Health for the first time, which has been questioned by the Medical College of Peru (CMP) for not meeting quality standards. In addition, the Medical Corps of nine national hospitals rejected the test, as well as health sciences faculties of several national and private universities.
Abel Salinas indicated in RPP that the National Medical Examination (ENAM), administered by health sciences faculties in the country, has shown that The academic quality of students in these branches is declining, which implies a risk to the health of the population.
“Unfortunately, a large percentage (…) did not pass the (ENAM) and they said ‘how are those who do not pass the exam going to go to SERUMS’, well the Minister (of Health) could not think of a better idea than to say ‘well, let’s not take that exam anymore, we’ll do it ourselves’,” said the former minister.
Salinas said: “With what quality, with what capacity, with what competence can the Minsa carry out an academic training exam? None, it is total nonsense (…) I think we are adrift and, once again, We are putting people’s health at risk”he stressed.
He also considered that The head of the Minsa, César Vásquez, should submit his letter of resignation and stressed that “the stability of the country is being put at risk. “The Minister of Health is compromising President Dina Boluarte herself, whose credibility and popular acceptance are diminishing,” he added.
