Santo Domingo, DR.- The National Institute of Transit and Land Transport (INTRANT) has the obligation and responsibility to begin the immediate design of the methodology that will be used to allow the application of the Technical Vehicle Inspection (ITV), as established by the Law No. 63-17, of Mobility, Land Transport, Transit and Road Safety of the Dominican Republic, according to lawyer and union leader Mario Díaz.
“This measure is crucial to ensure that only vehicles in optimal driving conditions travel on public roads, thereby reducing the risk of accidents that currently threaten the road safety of our citizens throughout the national territory,” Díaz added.
Mario Díaz has expressed his concern about the growing wave of traffic accidents in the Dominican Republic, warning that if the Technical Vehicle Inspection is not urgently implemented, accidents will continue to increase uncontrollably in all provinces of the country.
“The MOT is not only an urgent need, it is a legal mandate that must be complied with to protect lives and reduce accidents that, unfortunately, are the order of the day on our public roads and highways,” said Díaz.
Díaz also stressed the importance of the program to renew “chatarras del concho” being implemented simultaneously with the launch of the Technical Vehicle Inspection and in this context he recalled that Law 253-12, on Strengthening the State’s Collection Capacity for Fiscal Sustainability and Sustainable Development, establishes the creation of a special fund that must be used to support this process of vehicle renewal, thus ensuring that vehicles used to transport passengers and cargo in our territory comply with the safety standards required by law.
“The implementation of the ITV and the renewal of public passenger and cargo transport vehicles in the Dominican Republic will not only contribute to improving road safety, but will also reinforce compliance with current regulations, thus promoting a safer and more efficient transport system for Dominicans,” concluded Díaz.
