Peru sends air support to fight forest fire in Ecuador

In a show of regional solidarity, the Peruvian Air Force has been mobilized to assist Ecuador in the fight against the devastating forest fires ravaging the country. From Air Group 7 in Piura, two planes and two helicopters have been deployed to join in the extinguishing efforts.

Peruvian aircraft have an exceptional water carrying capacity. Planes can carry up to 5,000 liters of water per mission, while helicopters are equipped with 900-liter buckets.

A system of airtight containers allows the aircraft to discharge up to 30,000 litres of water in six missions a day, which represents a significant contribution in the fight against the flames.

The helicopters, for their part, have been deployed from the Catamayo airfield, located a few kilometers from the affected area, and carry out between four and five drops per mission.

The fire, which has consumed nearly 60,000 hectares, has forced the displacement of numerous families and left several people injured.

The magnitude of the disaster has mobilized multiple actors at the regional level, demonstrating the importance of international cooperation in emergencies of this nature.
