Showers accompanied by thunderstorms will occur from early Sunday morning in 20 provinces due to a trough, but temperatures will remain hot, the Ministry of Health reported. Dominican Institute of Meteorology (Indomet).
The agency said it is also monitoring three weather systems with varying probabilities of becoming tropical cyclones in the next 48 hours.
The provinces where rainfall is expected are La Altagracia, San Pedro de Macoris, San Cristobal, Barahona, Samana, Maria Trinidad Sanchez, Greater Santo Domingo Hato Mayor and Monte Plata.
Indomet also cited the provinces of Sanchez Ramirez, Duarte, La Vega, Monsignor Nouel, Santiago, Santiago Rodriguez, Montecristi, Elias Piña, Dajabon, Independence and Baoruco
“From the early morning hours there will be some cloudy weather accompanied by scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms in provinces near the Atlantic and Caribbean coasts. In the afternoon, we will see some increases in cloudiness that will leave scattered showers and thunderstorms until early evening,” he said.

Indomet explained that the increase in rainfall during the afternoon in different provinces of the national territory will be due to a trough and the local effects related to daytime heating, wind and the orography of the Dominican territory.
The heat will continue
He said temperatures will remain hot, becoming slightly cool at night and early morning in some regions of the country.
They monitor systems
“We are monitoring three weather systems with varying degrees of potential for becoming tropical cyclones in the next 48 hours,” the agency said.
Indomet stated that an active tropical wave east of the Lesser Antilles has a very low probability of cyclonic development in the next 48 hours, while for the following 7 days there is a 50% probability.
It also monitors an area of low pressure over the northwestern Gulf of Mexico, with a 10% chance of cyclonic development for the next two days.
Also another tropical wave close to the Cape Verde Islands.
