Boca wins, but Vélez remains unstoppable

Boca Juniors won 2-1 at home on Saturday Rosario Central in the thirteenth day of the Professional League, where Velez Sarsfield Boca remains the leader after beating Independiente Rivadavia. With the victory, Boca is now in eighth place in the standings with 21 points, six behind the leader, Vélez Sarsfield, and three behind the runner-up, Huracán.

In the match played at La Bombonera stadium in front of 50,000 fans, the popular Argentine team opened the scoring in the third minute with a free kick by defender Cristian Lema. The second goal came in the 15th minute through Brian Aguirre, after a shot by his teammate Cristian Medina hit one of the posts. Rosario Central discounted in the 93rd minute with a free kick by Colombian Jáminton Campaz that surprised goalkeeper Leandro Brey.

For its part, Vélez Sarsfield maintains its lead after beating Independiente Rivadavia de Mendoza 4-0 at home at the José Amalfitani stadium with goals from Braian Romero, Elías Gómez, Francisco Pizzini and Uruguayan Michael Santos at minutes 19, 29, 68 and 76, respectively.

In other Saturday matches, Talleres won 1-0 against Estudiantes de La Plata, Defensa y Justicia beat Barracas Central 1-0, while Newell’s Old Boys of Rosario and Belgrano of Córdoba drew 0-0. The day began on Friday with goalless draws in the matches Sarmiento-Lanús and Unión-Deportivo Riestra.
