The newspaper La Razón today closed the cycle of selling news in paper format and announced a shift to digital media. The shift is taking place after 34 years of printing in tabloid format.
The editorial published by the La Paz-based newspaper, corresponding to issue 12,092, reveals that “the current Bolivian economic crisis, with its impact on foreign exchange flows and our operational logistics, particularly on the import of raw materials, and the reconfiguration of investment in the advertising market, has motivated the change: starting in September, La Razón will not have a paper version and we will move our editions to digital paper.”
The newspaper went out to the streets in June 1990, and transitioned from “a healthy economy “market” proposed to readers by its founding director, Jorge Canelas Sáenz (1933-2006), until it became a medium that supported the policies of the leftist government of Evo Morales (2006-2019), reflects the executive secretary of the National Press Association (ANP), Franz Chávez.

La Razón is the second newspaper to abandon paper after the pandemic. The independent newspaper El Día from the city of Santa Cruz de la Sierra paused its paper editions in 2020, and is currently concentrating its efforts on digital media.
El Día, like other independent newspapers, was excluded from the advertising

of Evo Morales and Luis Arce.
On June 29, 2023, the newspaper Página Siete closed down and its owner attributed the measure to a financial siege. Other independent newspapers reduced their staff of journalists, editors, photographers and printing staff, overwhelmed by systematic government persecution through internal taxes, sanctions and fines issued by tax collection agencies.
