Police arrest woman wanted for abusing her 2-year-old daughter

The National Police (PN) arrested a woman on Friday who was wanted for abusing her two-year-old daughter, an act that was evidenced through a video posted on social media.

The woman identified as Ana Berkis Santos placed her daughter on the floor, next to an electrical outlet, and verbally abused her, an incident that occurred in San Francisco de Macorís, Duarte province.

Santos was located and captured at her workplace, located in the National District, and is accused of allegedly having committed violation under article 396, letters A and B of Law 136-03.

These establish that “any physical harm received by a child or adolescent, in a non-accidental manner and in which the person who caused this injury is in a position of superiority or power” and “when an adult systematically attacks the personal development of the child or adolescent and their social competence”, said adult will be punished with sentences of two to five years in prison and a fine of three to ten officially established minimum wages in force at the time of committing the infraction.

The detainee was immediately transferred to the corresponding judicial jurisdiction of the Duarte province, for the corresponding legal purposes.

Police officers from the Specialized Directorate for Attention to Women and Domestic Violence (DEAMVI) and Intelligence (DINTEL) participated in the arrest operation.
