Higui, the woman who will be tried next March 15 accused of having murdered a man allegedly to defend herself from an attempted rape, assured that she is afraid “to meet those guys again” and added: “I just want everything to end this”.
During a meeting held with some 60 lesbians, lesbians and friends or lesbians who also support her cause, Higui told Télam “I haven’t slept well for 5 years. I went out because of the pibis. I’m free because of the pibis.”
Eva Analía “Higui” De Jesús, 47, was arrested in October 2016 for killing a man allegedly to defend herself from an attempted rape.
On March 15, the trial will begin in which the episode that occurred when Higui went to visit family and friends in the Mariló neighborhood of Bella Vista, in the San Miguel district, where, leaving a friend’s house, he was attacked by a gang that regularly harassed her because of her sexual orientation.
Higui took out a knife that he had hidden in his chest and stuck it into a man on top of him. After being arrested, she was notified that the attacker had died.
De Jesús was prosecuted for simple homicide by the Court of Guarantees 6 of San Martín after a brief instruction from the Fiscal Unit 25 and was imprisoned until June 2017, when the justice granted her extraordinary release.
The activists coincided in expressing their support for Higui. “We are here to give you our support, a team plays on the field but it has its fans, which is better”.
Gabriela Conder, Higui’s lawyer, also present at the meeting, told Télam that it is a “legitimate defense” and that Higui “has to be acquitted.”
“The idea of organizing ourselves is because we all know that Higui defended himself. When you leave the place of “victim” and defend yourself, the State accuses you. They don’t want us to defend ourselves,” she said.
“It was an assault and a sexual assault. Higui defended himself, it was his life or that of the attacker. However, she was investigated for simple homicide, ”she emphasized.
“Higui is a small person, 1.50 tall. She was alone and a group of 4 men attacked her. One of them tried to rape her as a “corrective” way for her sexual orientation, while she was beaten by the other three, who attacked her, “said the lawyer.
And he added: “The publicity of the trial is very important. It’s going to be public. We have to be many and many there to give it visibility. The Mothers of Plaza de Mayo are going to support Higui. Nora Cortiñas, Mirta Baravalle, Elia Epstein, among others”.
On March 15, the trial will begin in the courts of San Martín, province of Buenos Aires, and will consist of four hearings in which 30 witnesses will testify.
“Most of the witnesses are going to testify against Higui. It is about the aggressors and their families. Other testimonies, residents of the neighborhood, will talk about how they harassed and insulted her when she lived there, “said the lawyer.
