Minister Cristiano Zanin, of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), denied this Friday (30) Starlink feature to overturn the decision by Minister Alexandre de Moraes that ordered the blocking of the bank accounts of the company, which belongs to billionaire Elon Musk and operates in the area of satellite internet in Brazil.
In the decision, the minister understood that the writ of mandamus, a type of process filed by the company, cannot be used to contest the decision of another minister of the Court.
“That said, in view of the various rulings of the Federal Supreme Court regarding the admissibility of a writ of mandamus against jurisdictional acts, I deny the continuation of this writ. [decisão]”, he stated.
Moraes ordered the blocking to guarantee the payment of fines of R$18 million for failure to comply with decisions on blocking profiles of those investigated by the Court on the social network X, which also belongs to Musk.
The decision came to light after Alexandre de Moraes determined this Wednesday (28) that Elon Musk should indicate, within 24 hours, a new legal representative for X in Brazil. The deadline expired yesterday, the decision was not complied with and the network was suspended this Friday (30).
In a statement, X declared that it will not comply with the minister’s “illegal decisions.” According to the platform, the decisions are intended to “censor Moraes’ political opponents.”
Musk also used his X account to mock the decision of the STF minister who subpoenaed him through the platform and published an image generated by artificial intelligence to compare Moraes to villains from the Harry Potter and Star Wars series.
