News Colombia.
Colombia, a country with a rich political history, has paid tribute to several of its presidents through the naming of municipalities and districts.
This tradition, which has marked the map of the country, has left its mark in various regions. Below, we present some of these towns that proudly bear the name of former presidents, highlighting their legacy and the influence they had in their times.
One of the first examples of this tradition is Apulo, in Cundinamarca. Here, an attempt was made to name the place Rafael Reyes, in honor of the president who governed Colombia between 1904 and 1909.

However, the political forces of the time did not allow this change. Another example is Ragonvalia, in Norte de Santander, a town that pays homage to Ramón González Valencia, president between 1909 and 1910, who was born in this department.
In the Cauca Valley, we find Restrepo, a municipality that remembers the Antioquian president Carlos E. Restrepo, who governed between 1910 and 1914.

Similarly, the municipalities of Suárez in Tolima and Suárez in Cauca were named after Marco Fidel Suárez, president of Colombia from 1918 to 1921, a paisa whose influence extended across various regions of the country.
In Antioquia and on the Pacific coast of Nariño, the memory of Enrique Olaya Herrera, president from 1930 to 1934, is preserved in the municipalities of Olaya and Olaya Herrera, respectively.
For his part, Alfonso López Pumarejo, who held the presidency on two occasions (1934-1938 and 1942-1945), is remembered with Puerto López, in the department of Meta.
Finally, the department of Meta also has Puerto Lleras, a municipality named after Alberto Lleras Camargo, president for two periods, 1945-1946 and 1958-1962, and a key figure in the country’s political history.
These towns, more than just geographical names, represent a political legacy and a recognition of the figures who have marked the history of Colombia.
