Arista: “2024 budget was overestimated”

José Arista

The Minister of Economy and Finance, José Arista, stated that the previous management of the MEF had approved a budget for 2024 12% higher than in 2023overestimating income. The Fiscal Council had warned the MEF about this situation, but President Boluarte only managed to not ratify the president of the collegiate body, Carlos Oliva.

“The budget went from S/215,000 million (2023) to S/241,000 million (2024) in a context in which the economy was entering a recession process and, in the end, we ended up with a 0.5% drop in GDP,” said an indignant Arista.

This situation, the official said, has led to municipalities and regional governments now claiming that they have been allocated fewer resources than what was initially established.

For this reason, he said, the 2025 budget project presents more “realistic” figures, without underestimating revenues. This project would be sent to Congress today for debate and approval.

Arista announced that the 2025 budget is proposed to be 4.5% in advance and stated that capital expenditures in regional and local governments will be prioritized. He said that the fiscal deficit taken into account for this proposal is 2.2% of GDP.
