Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), determined this Friday (30) the suspension of the social network X in Brazil. The measure was taken after the end of the 24-hour deadline given by the minister to billionaire Elon Musk, owner of the social network, to indicate a legal representative in Brazil. The deadline finished at 8:07 pm this Thursday (29).
On Wednesday (28), the minister subpoenaed Musk to carry out the nomination. The summons was made on the STF’s profile on the social network. On August 17, Musk announced the closure of the company’s headquarters in Brazil and accused Moraes of threats.

According to Friday’s decision, the National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel) will be responsible for enforcing the suspension within 24 hours and notifying telephone operators to implement the blocks. Operators will also have to block the use of VPNs by users who attempt to circumvent the suspension.
The measure will be valid throughout the national territory until all judicial blocking orders are complied with and the fines applied are paid.
