Miguel Ceara Hatton

Graduated in Economics from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) and the Center for Economic Research and Teaching (CIDE), specializing in Development and Econometrics.

Researcher at the José Luis Alemán Center for Economic and Social Studies of the Pontifical Catholic University Madre y Maestra (PUCMM), and professor from 2011 to 2020.

His main area of ​​research has been Dominican economic development and he has been a consultant in the economic field for international organizations and the private sector.

He was the national coordinator of the Human Development Office of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), responsible for the National Human Development Report, between 2002 and 2010.

He was Director of International Organizations at the State Secretariat for Foreign Affairs (SRE) and advisor to the Foreign Minister on trade issues, with the rank of ambassador, from 2002 to 2003.

Between 1996 and 2001, he was director of the economic area of ​​the Association of Caribbean States (AEC) based in Trinidad and Tobago, responsible for Trade, Tourism and Cooperation.

He was director of the Caribbean Economic Research Center (CIECA) between 1987-1996, based in Santo Domingo.

He worked as a technician at the Secretariat of Programming and Budget of Mexico, in the area of ​​national accounts between 1980-1981.

During the 1980s and the first half of the 1990s, he was a consultant and advisor for the Institute for Cooperation in Agricultural Sciences (IICA-OAS), the Regional Employment Program for Latin America and the Caribbean (PREALC), the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), the Office of Cultural Heritage, the Dominican Confederation of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (CODOPYME), and private companies.

University professor

He has been a professor at the Pontifical Catholic University Madre y Maestra (PUCMM), at the Technological Institute of Santo Domingo (INTEC), Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD) and the Catholic University of Santo Domingo.

Author of books

He has been the author, co-author and editor of 11 books on the Dominican economy and the economies of the Caribbean, as well as numerous articles and book chapters. Throughout his professional life, he has been an occasional or regular columnist in several national and international newspapers.
