Yamandú Orsi: «Our country needs more intelligence in security»

The Frente Amplio (FA) candidate, Yamandú Orsi, has been at the center of political debate with his recent criticism of the current government in Uruguay. During a conference in Florida, Orsi stated that “all management policy is concentrated in the last year,” a statement that raises questions about the short-term planning of government policies.

Orsi has been blunt in his criticism of the current government’s handling of security. He has said that the country’s national routes and airspace function as a “sieve,” accusing the Executive of a lack of control and foresight. The candidate mentions the need for greater intelligence and control over these areas to effectively combat organized crime and drug trafficking.

“Uruguayan airspace is a sieve, where we now know that organized crime and drug trafficking operate in this way,” said Orsi, highlighting the seriousness of the situation. He also pointed out that efforts to improve conditions in the transportation system began late, after four years of inaction.

Disagreements in the government coalition

The Frente Amplio candidate has also criticised the internal dynamics of the current governing coalition. According to Orsi, there is an environment in which each party within the coalition acts under the notion that “I do everything right, you did everything wrong.” This perception, he says, distorts political dialogue and calls into question the effectiveness of the current government management.

Another point highlighted by Orsi is the public perception that his party, the Frente Amplio, lacks significant proposals. The candidate insists that his party developed a clear and solid government program “four or five months ago,” although he feels that they have not been given the necessary space to share their ideas with the electorate. Orsi assures that the proposals presented by his party are serious and worthy of consideration.

Blanca Rodriguez’s Entry into Politics

Blanca Rodríguez’s incorporation into the Frente Amplio adds another layer to the current political situation. The former television host, who is now seeking a seat in the Senate, used the social media platform X to reconfigure herself in the political arena, after avoiding media exposure for more than two weeks.

Rodríguez, who gained recognition in the media for his role in Subrayado, dedicated his return to the networks to address the issue of detainees who disappeared during the Uruguayan dictatorship. It is clear that even retired public figures can influence and enrich the current political discourse in the country.

Reflections on the International Day of Enforced Disappearances

Coinciding with the International Day of Victims of Enforced Disappearances, Blanca Rodríguez expressed her opinion through a post on social media, emphasizing the importance of the search for “Memory, Truth and Justice.” In her message, Rodríguez stressed that the silence on the fate of missing persons not only affects families but also tarnishes the prestige of Uruguayan institutions.

In his last public appearance, Rodríguez invited reflection on human rights and the need to remember the victims of forced disappearances. This call is gaining relevance in the political arena with new and experienced figures raising their voices on crucial human rights issues.
