NEW YORK.- The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey reported that more than 6.7 million people will travel to different parts of the country on vacation this weekend to celebrate Labor Day (Monday, September 2). It would be a record for the travel period on this day.
Travelers will use the various airports and vehicle crossings to enjoy the last long weekend of summer, from this Thursday, August 29 to Tuesday, September 3.
The agency estimates that approximately 4.2 million vehicles will use the bridges and tunnels during the festive period, in line with the volume for the same period in 2023.
An estimated 2.5 million passengers are expected to travel through John F. Kennedy, Newark Liberty, LaGuardia and New York Stewart airports over the six days.
This expected volume represents a 3% increase from the previous high recorded for that travel period in 2023, and an 8% jump compared to the same period in 2019 before the pandemic.
